Our Beliefs

We are a body of believers who profess a living faith. This faith is rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ. Therefore, the sole authority for faith and practice among Baptist is Jesus Christ whose will is revealed in the Holy Scriptures. We exist to glorify God and make the name of Christ known in our community, state, and around the the world. The following sets forth the teachings to which we adhere.

The Bible. The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is the record of God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth for its matter. We believe the original manuscripts, as inspired by God to the prophets, were inerrant. It reveals the principles by which God judges us; and therefore is and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all humans conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.

God. There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.

Salvation. We believe that man was created innocent, but was tempted by a personal devil who, with his angels, carries on the work of iniquity in this world. Man yielded to this temptation, thus rebelling, disobeying God, which is a sin. The end result of sin is eternal separation from God. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only Savior from sin. He atoned for our sin with His shed blood on the cross and rose again for our justification. Apart from Jesus, there is no salvation. Lost man is made right with God by grace through faith in Jesus. The Holy Spirit regenerates the one who makes the life commitment to Jesus, and the life begun in regeneration is never lost.

The Church. We believe that a New Testament Church is a voluntary association of baptized believers in Christ who have covenanted together to follow the teachings of the New Testament in doctrine, worship, and practice. We believe the only two church ordinances are Baptism and the Lord's Supper. We likewise believe that only those who are committed to Jesus Christ are scriptural subjects for baptism and that immersion is the only proper mode of Baptism.

Christian Walk and Service. We believe that we are called with a holy calling to walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit to live in the power of the indwelling Christ, and not to fulfill the lust of the flesh. We believe that enabling gifts of service are bestowed by the Spirit upon all who are saved. We believe that as saved in this world, we are to relate to this world as strangers, pilgrims, ambassadors, and witnesses; and that our primary purpose in life should be to make Christ known to the world.
